*** Sorry for the delay. We move tomorrow so life has been hectic!
This was our first full day in Athens so we packed up our stuff, grabbed our new German friend, Martin and set off. It was hot and we did a lot of walking but we saw most of the good stuff today.
For example- here is a picture of the temple of Hephaistos in the Ancient Agora. The Ancient Agora is right next to the new market and between them runs the metro. When you are at the Ancient Agora it is very quiet and you can barely hear all the tourist noise from across the tracks. This is one of the most complete temples in Athens.
This is the Temple of Zeus.
This is one of the performance spaces at the Acropolis. This one is still in use and mainly is used for musical concerts. The theatre spaces were not built with the back wall.
This is our obligatory picture at the Acropolis.
We also went to the brand new Acropolis Museum which was excellent. Lunch was grabbed at the Ice Grill in touristland which was surprisingly very good and after a shower and a nap at the Hostel Ryan and I went out for dinner.
The waiter at dinner was Greek but had lived in Indiana, so spoke English. We let him choose our food. We ended up with an excellent meal, some local beer and were surprised with a strange cheesecake, jello, jelly dessert item on the house.
All in all an historically satisfying day.
