Inches

The tummy is keeping on it's outward track, however I still "just barely" have an innie. My mom and Ryan tell me you "can't even tell" from behind- but you can certainly tell from in front. We hit 37 1/2 inches this weekend and with the warmer weather in DC more people are offering me their seats on the metro. I am still trying to do as much walking as possible but I can tell it takes much more energy than before.

Trying not to think about the future- YIKES!

Texas Baby Shower

Last weekend Ryan and I went to Texas to visit my family and see some of our friends. While we were in town, my cousins and aunts threw us an amazing shower at Cousin Teran's beautiful home.

The cake was delicious. It was chocolate and made by a fellow Aramco Brat- Jodi Fernandez from Silver Cake Studio. We decorated onesies and opened a few presents while enjoying each other's company and the wonderful weather. We had asked for any gifts to be sent to DC so although we left the party with a few items we have spent the last week hauling baby items home from my office! So generous!

We had a great turn out. My mom and dad were there, plus my brother Curtis and sister in law Becky Schewe. We also had my Reader family- Judye, Larry; my Smith/Caffey family- Terry, Karen, Teran, Karis, John and toddler Phoebe; our Laabs/Woodall family- Perry, Sue, Amber, Jason and little Shane and a bunch of our friends including- Dan and Kathy Schewe, Diego & Becky Martinez with little Valentina, Steve and Sheryl Abrahams with Ben & Daniel, Mike Roberts and Laura Glase, Genevieve Campbell and David Rubenstein.

Cousins- Karis, Shelley, Curtis, Amber and hostess Teran.

Ryan and I right before we served the cake. It was delicious and tasted amazing even after a full brunch of fruit, pastries and quiche. There were also some beautiful flowers from the farmers market and my mom purchased some tasty sweet treats!

Some former and current swing bums/dance friends.

THANK YOU to everyone who could make it out to Houston. We and Widget feel very lucky to have such friends and family.

Math

I did the math this weekend and discovered I will be 31 weeks pregnant during the my next big event. This is the huge Spring Benefit Bash with 350 guests at the Fairmont Hotel comprised of a themed party, a silent and live auction, a call for cash and a three course dinner. (oh and possibly a young professional afterparty event)

Then I went to the baby book and looked up what life is like at 31 weeks.

Good thing it is western themed. I can go as a cow.

Mini Cribs

Ryan and I live in a small apartment. Honestly if I had seen this apartment when I was in college I would have been surprised people settle for such a limited amount of space. However, when I was in college I would have also fainted at the price tag for any DC apartment no matter what the size or location.

This apartment is larger than our NYC studio or our first basement apartment in DC but it is still only a one bedroom. And that bedroom is mostly full of our bed. One of the first discussions when the baby came on the scene was where to put it. We were slightly concerned but figured if others have handled it so could we. Then we went to the baby store and saw a full size crib. By DC standards they are huge and there was basically NO WAY we were going to be able to fit one of those in our bedroom. Maybe if we moved our bed into the living room which honestly was a fairly lengthy conversation which ended when we decided that WE were the grownups and we should be able to get to sleep in the bedroom.

Then I remembered the power of Google. What are all those other metro mommies and daddies doing in their tiny NYC and DC apartments? The answer according to Google was mini-cribs. (a second answer was co-sleeping but Ryan nixed that one) After some shopping around we have chosen this one (below) and I ordered it today. VERY EXCITING!

So baby will be in our room, in a mini-crib for at least the first little bit. Now we just need to find some mini-crib bedding that isn't pastel.

Glucose Testing

Today I get to do my glucose testing. As it has been explained to me, I will go to the doctor's office, get blood drawn, be asked to drink a disgusting flat orange soda honey nastiness mixture and then sit for an hour. Finally I get to have my blood drawn a second time and then they do some tests to find out if I am at risk for gestational diabetes.

Yum. I love flat orange warm soda AND getting my blood drawn. How am I so lucky to get them both in one day?!

We will be meeting Dr. O for a second time and this time we are going to ask him to do our C-section. It is a bit exciting to finally stop doctor hopping.
