Today was a long day.
We got up at 5:30 AM to drive into the Bronx at 6:10.
Wait. I should start before that. Around 1AM we had loud banging on the door to our Best Western hotel room. Kelly opened the door to 4 firefighters. Apparently Ariel had called the office because there was water pouring from a light fixture in the workout room. The firefighters thought the fuse box was in our room so they were looking to see. The fuse box was not in our room. However they did turn off the water heater. Luckily Kelly and I had already showered the night before.
On the way across the George Washington Bridge I accidentally got in the lower lane in the Penske truck and had to be escorted by police to the upper level toll booth.
Then on the way to the Bronx a guy in a truck honked and then shot the finger at me. No apparent reason.
Today at our venue, The Bronx Center for Science and Math, we couldn't find a place to park the van, we couldn't fit most of the set in, we didn't have light cues, and while unpacking the van one set piece fell off the ramp narrowly missing Anthony. I wasn't as lucky and also fell off the van and will have a nice big bruise and a painful shoulder to show for it.
The day got a little better after that. The show was good and the kids were awesome. We had actually been worried because they were high schoolers and our show is mostly for 2nd graders but they were very well behaved and asked some great questions during the Q&A.
Seven hours of driving tomorrow. Maybe life will be better.
